Introducing our newest Gallery Artists - Roman Lystvak & Vadim Stain
September 16, 2012 2pm-6pm
Spirits, Strings & Charlatans
Works by Sofia Bachvarova
The exhibit at PVS Gallery will be comprised of paintings, sculptures and video/dance installation; all weaved in by Bulgarian–born artist SofiaBachvarova into a kind of sublime nonsense, inspired by the artist’s life-‐long interest in the magical.
Growing up in the ancient Balkan region of Thracia, the birthplace of Orpheus; legends and superstitions were ingrained in the very fabric of life and influenced the artist in ways which took years to crystalize. In her recent paintings and installations Bachvarova renews this dialogue with her past as she expands it to include her interest in Eastern Hindu and Zen Philosophy, Quantum Theory and the Bizarre and Unexplained.
For her exhibition at PVS Gallery, Bachvarova will recreate her own space of urban witchcraft filled with her paintings, hanging sculptures, video installation in addition to live Butoh dance performance by Lena Ang with sound accompaniment by Peter Vitalone and, ... with some good luck -‐ a gypsy fortuneteller.
Sofia Bachvarova has made the Neumann Leathers Building in Hoboken her creative home after earning her graduate degree from the New York Academy of Art, where she studied her craft under world renowned painters such as Eric Fischl, Jenny Saville, and others. Bachvarova’s work is since in public and private collections, including the CEO of Golden Paints Corporation. For more info visit her website: http://www.sofiabachvarova.com
